I think everyone can agree that once the warm weather hits, we’re immediately struck with spring fever. All of those newly engaged couples are wanting to step outside after those cold winter blues and soak up the sun. As soon as I spoke with Shauna and Andrew about their vision for their photos, I was immediately hooked. It was evident that these two were head over heels in love and I couldn’t wait to capture their love story to the fullest. This Old City Philadelphia engagement session was one that really captured the essence of their love. I am still swooning over how beautiful these turned out, let’s see what you think!
Old City Philadelphia Engagement
Whenever I work with couples for their wedding day, I always anticipate the moment that we get to do their engagement photos. An engagement session is the perfect time for me to meet my couples, but also for my couples to have a better understanding of how I work, shoot, etc. Your engagement session is essentially the “trial run” for your wedding day. This makes getting your photos taken that much more enjoyable, easy going and fun! For Shauna and Andrew’s special day, we headed to the beautiful streets of Old City Philadelphia. The Old City district is also named “America’s Most Historic Square Mile”. Here is where where you can experience the history of Philadelphia to the fullest.
First Bank of The United States
One of my favorite go-to locations is the First Bank here in Philadelphia, PA. The First Bank first opened back in 1791. While the bank is no longer open to the general public, it still is open for some great photo opportunities. The First Bank is a three-story brick building with a blue marble facade. The pillars located towards the front of the building tower over you and truly show the history behind this building.
Because of it’s gorgeous exterior and history, it really makes for the perfect location for your engagement photos. If you’re really wanting to rep Philadelphia and all of it’s glory then this is the place to be. Upon arrival at our first location, I was immediately floured at how amazing both Shauna and Andrew looked. Shauna wore this beautiful baby blue wrap dress while Andrew kept things fairly neutral with a white button up and navy blue pants. Merchant Exchange Building
For those of you who haven’t noticed already, the Merchant Exchange Building has my heart. Whether it be your wedding portraits or your engagement session, I love being able to bring my couples here. The Merchant Exchange or also known as the Philadelphia Exchange was built back in 1834. Today the building now serves as a National Historical Landmark and again, is home to many amazing photo opportunities. The structure itself is well preserved and really showcases the history of Old City Philadelphia.
Race Street Pier
Aside from wanting some of those gorgeous city views, Shauna and Andrew also to soak up golden hour by the water. In comes the Race Street Pier. With views of the Ben Franklin Bridge, this is the perfect engagement location if you’re wanting plenty of space and those stunning water views. Who says you need to go to the beach? Not me!
Prior to arriving, Shauna and Andrew did a quick outfit change into more casual attire. Typically for engagement sessions I recommend you bring two outfits. One being more on the formal side, while the other being more casual. Essentially you’re getting the vibe of two different photoshoots in one! When we arrived at Race Street Pier golden hour was about to peak. It was cotton candy skies and beautiful water views for the remainder of the night and it was pure bliss.
Everything about this Old City Philadelphia engagement was just as beautiful as I could have imagined. While I am in love with Shauna & Andrew’s engagement photos, I can’t wait until next Spring when I get to capture their wedding at The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm!
