Fleurish Editorial Styled Shoot

post

July 13, 2022

While the majority of the time you will catch me photographing some beautiful weddings across the East Coast, that’s not all that sets my heart on fire. In fact, being creative and getting to step outside of my comfort zone is one of the many passions that have within my business. Oftentimes in order to build our portfolio and have a creative outlet, vendors will host what is called styled shoots. Thanks to all of the amazing vendors (listed below) the Fleurish Editorial Styled Shoot was born.

Benefits of Attending A Styled Shoot

Now before we can deep dive into the beautiful magic we created at this Fleurish Editorial Styled Shoot, it’s important to understand some of the benefits of attending a styled shoot. While many photographers are wary at first to attend these shoots, you quickly realize that these shoots light your soul up, unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Below are just some of the many benefits of attending a styled shoot that hopefully may change your mind about them altogether.

Build Your Portfolio

Whether you’re just starting out or an expert within your field, styled shoots are great portfolio builders. You not only are able to partake in a specific vision, but you are able to create work that helps showcase more of what you would like to photograph in the future.

Practice Your Craft

No matter where you are in your photography journey, there is always new things to learn. With that being said, styled shoots give you the opportunity to practice techniques that you wouldn’t normally practice say on a wedding day. Learning, growing and practicing is all apart of the game and help you become a better photographer and test out your skills.

Networking

Styled shoots are a great opportunity for networking. You’re able to meet vendors who work within your industry and make connections that maybe you normally wouldn’t have. You can exchange creative ideas, and techniques and overall help build your community even further. Especially if you’re working from home and tend to be alone for your work, finding others who share similar experiences as you will help you a ton on your photography journey.

Test Out New Equipment & Gear

If you’re someone who has been itching to test out that new camera of yours or practice while given the opportunity to make mistakes, then attending a styled shoot is for you! While attending a styled shoot you’re able to test out any new equipment or gear. This is an opportunity where mistakes are welcome because that helps you learn and grow. Not only that, but you’re able to learn everything and tweak as you go before an actual session!

Fleurish Editorial Styled Shoot

Thanks to the lovely hosts of this Fleurish Editorial Styled Shoot, Grace and Ardor Co., Tone Events, and Winsome Floral, it was a major success. If you haven’t noticed already, this shoot was heavily centered around pastel pinks and spring tones. This Fleurish Editorial shoot also focused on a ton of florals and making it feel as ethereal as possible. Despite the shoot taking place inside of a studio, it sure didn’t feel like it. Our beautiful model, Jennifer Larkin, looked breathtaking and fit the role of this styled shoot so well.

As I mentioned before, styled shoots are about being creative and stepping outside of your element. So testing out different techniques and angles are all a part of the process when attending these styled shoots. I also took this opportunity to play around more with film photography, which is something I have loved being able to incorporate. Film does take a little bit more practice and you have less room for error, but in a way makes the challenge all the more exciting. Throughout this blog, you will notice a mixture of digital and film photos. Not to toot my own horn but… I think they’re not too shabby. What do you think?
