Ways To Incorporate Your Pup At Your Wedding

If you are a fur parent, then you know how important they are to you in your life. You become completely obsessed with them but trust me when I say I don’t blame you. I have two huskies and they are my whole world, so I get it. With them being such an integral part of your life, no wonder you may be inclined to have them apart of your wedding day! I get so giddy when couples choose to incorporate their fur babies on their wedding day. Whether they are actually there or not, there are still tons of ways to incorporate your pup at your wedding. From decor pieces, details to having them walk with you down the aisle. Here are just a few ways to incorporate your pup at your wedding and make every single heart melt… including yours.

The First Steps

Before you start making any major plans to have your pup at your wedding there are a few things you need to consider.

Does Your Wedding Venue Allow Pets?

It’s important to know first if your wedding venue allows pets on the property. There are some wedding venues that simply don’t allow pets on their site due to a multitude of reasons. They want to be respectful of guests and avoid any damage and/or noise. If you are someone who without a doubt wants their pup on their wedding day, then I suggest looking for wedding venues that allow you to bring them before you officially book. This will save you a ton of stress and time if you find out after the fact you can’t have your fur baby with you.

What Is Your Pup’s Personality Like?

When it comes to having your pup at your wedding, it’s important to be realistic. Asking questions such as:

• How does my pup react around people?
• How does my pup react when I am not with them?
• Who would watch my pup if I can’t?

These are all valid questions that you should ask yourself before deciding to have your pup at your wedding. Your pup could act perfectly fine at home, but not behave well around large guests amounts. It’s crucial to know all of this before deciding you’re wanting your pup to attend your wedding.

Communicate With Your Photographer/Vendors

When you are planning on having your pup at your wedding, it’s also important to communicate this with not only your photographer but your vendors as well. Making sure that you let them know that your pup will be attending the wedding is super important. Especially if any of them have any allergies to dogs!

Ways To Incorporate Your Pup At Your Wedding

Having your pup at your wedding can really pump up the party and really have every family member there to celebrate. However, in the case that your puppy may not be able to attend your wedding here are a few ways you can still incorporate them (whether or not they are physically there).

Show Them Off In Your Details

Okay, so your wedding venue doesn’t allow pups but you still want to be able to celebrate with your pup. Now what? Well, the perfect compromise is being able to show off your pup in your details. Whether it be on your napkins, invitations, signage, decor, or even on your wedding cake! A paw print or a small illustration of your pup can go a long way and make you feel like they are right there beside you.

Name Drinks After Your Pup

Another way to honor your pup without them actually being there is to name drinks after them! If you plan on having signature cocktails, create a drink menu entirely dedicated to your pup. The menacing margarita sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Sorry, that’s the best I could do – lol.

Dress Them Up & Walk Them Down The Aisle

Now, if your wedding venue allows pups then that’s great news! One of the most common and traditional ways most couples incorporate their pup on their wedding day is by dressing them up and having them walk down the aisle. Not only is your pup matching dress code (formal only please) but they also get to be there right by your side as you walk down the aisle and stand at the altar. Just make sure that they are able to sit for a good chunk of your ceremony time or else you will be having a wandering dog!

Another great way to combat a wandering dog on your wedding day is to hire a pet attendant. There are pet attendants located all throughout the US that are there specifically to take care of your pup on your wedding day. It’s the perfect solution to have them there but you don’t need to be watching them 24/7. It’s a win-win – woohoo!

Include Them In Your Family Photos

Last but certainly not least, you can include them in your family photos! Having your pup join in on the fun of your wedding portraits is one of my favorite parts about having pups attend weddings. While it does take some maneuvering (and a ton of treats) to get them to look at the camera, we make it work and the end result is the best thing ever.

So remember, having your fur baby there at your wedding can be such an amazing thing. They are a part of your family and should be treated as such, right? On the off chance though that they can’t be there, don’t worry. You still are able to celebrate with your pup in other ways that will still make you feel like they were right there beside you.
